Currently seeking one Dramaturg/Collaborator for The White Feather Project at Ursinus College.
The White Feather Project is a theatrical play concerning white fragility and cowardice. Devised from scholarly texts, primary sources, and in-person interviews, the community of Ursinus College is the vehicle and incubator for this piece. Performances will be on-campus and in Philadelphia in Spring 2019.
This is the first project of a budding theatre collaborative. We hope that our Dramaturg will participate in other projects and sustain a long-term creative partnership. With that said, although we are currently hiring a Dramaturg, The White Feather Project is also accepting applications from performers to be cast in January. In the application, please specify if you would like to be considered for one or both positions.
Ideal candidates will have experience with the practice and study of performance (theatre, dance, devising, clown, spoken word, etc.), strong research skills, and creative writing talent. “Formal” training and/or academic degrees are not necessary for a successful application. Dedication, talent, and creativity are paramount.
The Dramaturg will be paid a stipend in two installments-- at the start and end of zir’s contract. Additional payment will be available from ticket sales after The White Feather Project ’s performance in Philadelphia.
POC and/or LGBTQIA+ artists are strongly encouraged to apply.
Applicants must have reliable transportation around Philadelphia and to Collegeville, Pennsylvania (SEPTA, car, etc.). In addition to the Dramaturg’s payment, a small travel stipend is provided.
Employed from November to May, some of the Dramaturg’s responsibilities include:
Meetings and rehearsals with the team in Philadelphia and Collegeville. Occasionally, Skype calls may be arranged to supplement busy schedules, travel difficulties, etc.
Thorough analysis of texts outlined on a prearranged reading list for The White Feather Project
Additional research and analysis of texts, articles, media, found on zir’s own accord, to bolster the creative process as needed
Manager and content creator for The White Feather Project website and blog
Helping to document the process of The White Feather Project
Writing and refining The White Feather Project’s script and performance creation
Continue to serve as a creative and analytical outside eye during the devising and rehearsal process
